Q: auto insurance in bc?
The company I work for is finally leasing me a vehicle they are in toronto and I am living in bc the lease is approved and now I am having a hard time insuring the vehicle. The company is liscensed in burnaby, surrey whiterock etcetc. but Icbc still is giving me a hard time. The truck was leased in BC and is through gmac my driving record is good I get the max discount if anyone knows what I need to do to insure the vehicle please let me know I will be the primary operator. thanks

A: You haven't said why you are having a hard time. Has ICBC said what the problem is? You are right, of course, ICBC is your ONLY vehicle insurance option in BC. Horrible is the word on them. I can only think to suggest talking to someone ELSE at ICBC --you may have just contacted a particular weirdo-- and talking to the lease company as they likely have experience with ICBC problems. Of course--auto insurance agents. Maybe you didn't talk to the right one. Call around to a few in yellow pages. Someone knows. Tell them as briefly as you can. If they don't 'get it,' try again. Sometimes one just gets a real dud making a mountain out of a mole hill. Even though one is a representative of a company it doesn't mean they will give you the RIGHT answers.

Q: How can a non BC resident be on a car insurance (ICBC)?
BC only has one choice of auto insurance, ICBC (gov't run). And ICBC is not flexible and so expensive. I have a car insurance from ICBC on my car, but they told me that when my boyfriend who has an international driver's license cannot drive my car under my insurance. I thought about renting a car so he can be insured and drive. But ICBC's rental car insurance does not cover non BC residents either. So how people who visit BC from other countries travel and be insured to drive a car??? Any information will be much appreciated. Thanks! Yes, he has a driver's license from his home country which lets him drive anywhere in EU and also the international one that you can get it from AAA or CAA in north america. The insurance broker who I bought my policy was the worst person I ever met in my life. She told me a lot of wrong information about my policy, never explained me the monthly payment option and so on. I wish I bought a policy from you, Fred C! So my auto insurance actually covers my car and my boyfriend when he drives my car occasionally (the broker told me if he does, ICBC will not cover any accidents). I am very happy to find the correct information. He is just staying here for few months and not a BC resident, which means he cannot switch to a BC license. Thank you so much for your answer!

A: There is no such thing as an "International Driver Licence" as such. He has to have a licence from his home country, and the IDP is only good as long as that licence is good. It is the same number and class, and translates the licence into 8 languages. If he is visiting you, and drives your car occasionally, he will be covered, so long as he has, in his possession, both the international and home country licences, but he cannot get insurance in his name unless he is a BC resident, in which case he then has to get a BC driver licence. If all he is carrying is the international card, he cannot drive any car, because it is not functional by itself.

Q: Will my auto insurance go up for my bf getting a HUGE speeding ticket in my car?
I have him on the policy, bc he has to drive the one vehicle, but will it go up now. He was doing 108 in a 50. I know it's rediculous, but it really sucks bc im only turning 19 and i've kept my record clean for almost three years now!!! We live in PA and it wasn't out-of-state or anything. This just happened yesterday!

A: What's ridiculous is your boyfriends immature behavior. There is no reason/excuse to drive 105 in a 50. Now, if you and your boyfriend share the car, or he drives it on a regular basis, he has to be listed on the insurance policy as a driver. Your boyfriend was doing more than double the speed limit - putting the rest of the driving public at risk .......and you don't think your rates should go up? If your boyfriend drives the car on a regular basis and you do not have him on your policy and he has a wreck (very likely to happen given his irresponsibility behind the wheel) - your insurance company can and will deny coverage. Your policy has language that says that if the vehicle is provided for his regular use and he is not listed on the policy, there is no coverage. This is to prevent people from not listing the bad drivers to keep their rates down. So, you either keep your boyfriend on the policy and make him pay you the surcharge or you make him get his own car and his own insurance.

Q: anyone know anything about auto insurance?
ok so I got into an accident almost three years ago that the people are JUST NOW suing me for and saying they were hurt, when I was the one who got T boned by them!! anyway, I have allstate, but my insurance will be $200 a month if I keep them, but I'm afraid to switch bc I feel like they won't defend me as well in the lawsuit if they aren't my insurance carrier anymore. Should I try to switch or not? I feel like $200 a month is pretty high! I've gotten quotes from other insurance companies (geico, progressive, for around $150 a month)

A: Are you being approached by an attorney for this other party. Normal statute for presenting a bodily injury claim is 2 years unless they've retained an attorney and filed with the court to extend it. Contact the insurance carrier that covered you at the time, they should be able to handle the situation for you. Doesn't matter if you switch now/later, they were your insurance company at the time of the accident.

Q: Do you think ob/gyn will give me a hard time about taking off from work before giving birth?
I'm 29 weeks right now and been doing research about when I should stop working. I work from 9-6, 5 days a week, selling auto insurance (yes a desk job, but it still can be stressful at times, especially having to deal with irate customers) and I am soooo exhausted! I am slightly anemic. Problems w/pregnancy: exhaustion, back aches, headaches (more recently), severe round ligament pain & last week I had a sharp pain in my belly button that hurt more when I moved or walked. Anyways, I am going to see my ob/gyn next tuesday and I want to discuss with her the possiblity of me leaving work in the next few weeks. I can't just quit my job bc i carry the health insurance & if I go on maternity leave, I can still have it. My question is, has anyone had any problems w/their doc not wanting to sign a note approving early maternity leave? Stupid question, I know, but I want to be prepared before I visit her. Of course I don't want the doctor to lie. I simply want her to make a note for my work that says I'm okay to go on maternity leave, maybe in November. I'm due dec 25. I'm needing to know from people w/ experience, if I have a realatively normal pregnancy, will my doctor provide a note 1 or 2 months before I have the baby. *unfortuantly, my job does not offer part-time *maternity leave will be for 12 weeks

A: You can do anything you want to, but the doctor can do the same. Who knows what they will say to you. All I have to say though is suck it up. Your "problems" aren't problems, they are normal for pregnacy, deal with it because labor and delivery is going to be alot worse and then once the baby comes, you are never going to sleep right again. Trust me. I worked all the way up to when I had my baby and I worked as a manager in a retail store. So I was on my feet 8-9 hours a day(sometimes even 12 hours a day), 6-7 days a week. I had my baby 2 weeks ealry because of it. You are lucky you have a sit down job. Get yourself a belly belt to help with the ligament pain and deal with your "problems" just like every other pregnant lady out there.

Q: I am moving to Canada in February 2008, I have several questions. Please Help!!! :)?
I will be moving to Canada in February of 2008. I have several questions that I am needing answered. I will be moving from the US to Vancouver, BC....Thanks in advance! 1) Does your credit history follow you when you move to Canada? 2) Does your driving history follow you when you move to Canada? And can I just trade in my US drivers license and get a BC license? 3) I am an MRI technologist, I believe it falls under the skilled migration, so how hard would it be to get a work visa? 4) When I move what happens with my american car loan? Credit cards? 5) How do I go about getting auto insurance in Canada, and when am I eligible for health insurance in Canada? 6) How long do you have to live/work in Canada to become a citizen? I do plan on having dual citizenship at some point in the future. 7) Where is the best place to look for healthcare jobs in Vancouver? Does anybody know of a website besides workopolis? Thanks!!!!!!

A: I am a Canadian and I lived in the US for two years. I couldn't get a credit card there the first year because I didn't have a credit history in the U.S. So, my credit did not follow me from Canada. I would imagine that it would be the same for you. Many states have reciprocal agreements with Canadian provinces with regards to driving records. B.C. has an exchange program with the U.S. So, all you need to do is trade in your state license for the B.C. license. http://www.icbc.com/licensing/lic_renew_replace_new.asp#caagsjsk As for work visas, you can see about immigrating as a skilled worker. But this process may take some time and you need to apply before leaving the U.S. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp If you are prepared to wait, I would think that you would have no trouble getting an invitation as we need all sorts of medical professionals in Canada. The poster above stated that you need a job lined-up -- this would be helpful, of course, however, if you look at the CIC site, this is not a requirement if you are applying to immigrate as a skilled worker. They state what the minimum requirements are and there is a points system in place. Having arranged employment is worth 10 points out of a possible 100: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/factor-employment.asp - of course, a job offer would make things easier. There are plenty of people who come to Canada from other countries and they don't have jobs lined-up. There is a provincial nominee program whereby if you can get a job offer, you can apply to immigrate: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp Why don't you try contacting the B.C. Association of Medical Radiation Technologists to find out what you might need to work in B.C.? http://www.bcamrt.bc.ca/ You likely need to be licensed in B.C. You need to find out if you can export your car. This site tells you all you need to do: http://www.riv.ca/ - The car loan might be an issue if the title is not clear. See: http://www.i-b-t.net/anm/templates/trade_article.asp?articleid=261&zoneid=3 It might be easier to sell the car. If you plan on keeping a residence in the U.S., you could keep your credit cards. This might be important only until you establish credit in Canada. But, what if you decide to return to the U.S.? You will need Cdn auto insurance and there are plenty of companies in Canada that also provide insurance in the U.S. State Farm is one, for example. You will need to live in Canada for 3 years out of 4 years preceding your application: https://services3.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do?&lang=en You would be eligible for B.C. health insurance after a period of residency in that province - apply when you arrive. So, you should carry some kind of health insurance until this kicks in: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/eligible.html If you are planning on leaving the U.S. permanently, you should know that you will have to file a U.S. tax return as well as a Cdn. return. You should be able to exclude your Cdn. income on the U.S. return, though - so, no double-taxation. Try Career Builder http://www.careerbuilder.ca/CA/Default.aspx Monster http://www.monster.ca But the provincial association for your field noted above will likely have job information. Hope this helps. And, for the poster from France, you do have to prove that you are financially independent - for one person this is about $10,000: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp Incidentally, since Canada is a bilingual country, if the French poster is adept in English and French, this would be beneficial.

Q: Is there a road side assist program in Canada for driving a 16`moving truck across? CAA and CTC have zilch?
So this is a personal move, Toronto to BC and I need some assurance in case of breakdown since the truck is used, under 10 years old. It's a 14 or 16 foot diesel cube van and isn't covered by the RV outfits, my auto insurance, CAA, or crap tire. If I could I also might buy extended coverage for a mechanical failure, along with the tow I'd need in the middle of Saskatchewan or wherever. I'd really appreciate anyone's input and experience in this area as we sure can't afford ten grand plus to hire movers and we've already done all the packing ourselves. Probably will sell the truck out there when done. Thanks, Guy.

A: I work for a car rental company. What ever type of vehicle it is call a dealership and ask for there raodside assistance phone number. Call the number and ask them about travel packages you can buy

Q: Is insurance optional / mandatory in UK?
I stumbled on this in Yahoo news, about insurance fraud in UK. Pls see article here: http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/18082006/389/insurance-don-t-fake-claim.html Beyond the obvious and reasonable, i.e.: auto and driver's liability, there ARE inevitabilities, for example fire insurance in the States bc residential housing is mostly matchsticks and cardboard. But UK bldgs are oftener brick and mortar, no ? Or some Far East countries in which by collusion and mendacity "life" insurance is sold on a naive public for gross profit alone, and claim settlements almost _never_ happen. But that's tangential. So, what gives ? Just seeking clarification. Thks. Answere ahdunno...tangential, meaning pertaining to the craft of SELLING insurance, though not germane to the question. Answerer NutstersChick...realistic, yet quite depressing. I should've stood in bed this AM instead of fireing up the 'Puter, it seems

A: You don't need by law to have house insurance, although your mortgage provider may insist that you do as a condition. Content insurance is not obligatory, but it covers you for third party liability, so if you cause damage to a neighbours property then contents insurance covers you. I had a flood in my flat, it leaked downstairs and ruined carpets and decorations of my neighbour, at the time I had no contents cover.

Q: Can someone tell me what I can do about Police abuse? Please Help!!!?
I was driving my aunt's jeep home that she just purchased from a guy she works with, when I got stopped by the city police for speeding 50/45(wow)..But neways he stops me and she had just purchased insurance through safe auto and I told him all of this..he goes back to his car and sits for about 15 mins, then comes back to me and ask for me to step out of the car. I then agreed, I was calling my mother to let her know what was happening to me, and that she needed to come right away. He told me I was cooperating and handcuffed my wrist so tight to where the circulation in my hands had stopped.he throws me in the back of the car, and has me sitting there for almost an hour while he does his paperwork, I kindly ask him could he double check my cuffs bc they seem to be a liitle to tight, he ignored what I was saying..after he finished his paperwork he then lwt me out of the car and handed me my citation for speeding/no proof of insurance. When I got back in the car my hands were purplish/blue i couldnt feel anything. It has been several weeks since this incident and the feeling in my hand as not returned. Im going to the doctor asap bc i dont know whats wrong? Pinched nerves? Please help!!!

A: Most people dont know this but restraint of your free movement unless under arrest is a violation of your civil rights. Sue his A** Also if you are not under arrest you have the right to remian in your vehicle. Without probable cause he may not search your vehicle unless you give permission. If you get a gehstapo cop like this I roll up the window and call 911 and ask for the watch commander this really slws barney down a bit. Know your rights and use them.

Q: $200 deductible for windshield replacement?
I have the comprehensive option on my insurance and am using it to replace my car's windshield. There's apparently a $200 deductible when going through insurance company... I always thought that it means that I pay $200 and the rest will be paid by the insurer. Now the company changing the windshield (Morrey Auto Group) is telling me that I only get $200 off (e.g. if the actual bill is $800 I have to pay $600). Should I accept this or are they charging too much? I live in Canada, BC and have my car insured with the monopoly ICBC. These people really need to think about hiring staff who can communicate in English. The guy at Morrey, whom I could barely understand, told me that I have to pay $200 and even showed me a bill stating that I have to pay ~600. I just called up the company and asked another person about the bill; they said I pay $200!... Thanks everyone for lightning responses.

A: you pay 200 and they pay the rest. what car is it..my husband just got a windshield in his S10 for 130 dollars [american]

Q: Car totaled, will I get financed again?
Okay, I bought a car a few weeks ago, 3 to be exact..Well to make a long story short in got vandalized and the insurance company might have to total it out due to high repair costs....Now here are my questions...1) I owe $6700 on the car, and I think it is worth $9600, will I get the difference to go toward a replacement car? 2) The car I bought that got vandalized, I got at a good deal, but I don't see any cars around that same price, will the insurance company possibly give me more, since there's really nothing in that price range?? 3) It was really hard for me to get financing bc I already had out a auto loan, but I eventually got financing through a credit union (I wasn't a member before I got the loan, but the car lot I bought the car from was), Will I likely get financing from that credit union again for another car?? Do you think I will get financing if the replacement car is 2 or 3K more?? Thanks for any of your help...... The car was in my hometown. I was there visiting and taking car of some personal business...The car was a Cadillac Deville...And I hadn't done anything fancy to it, seeing that I had just purchased it... Also, I had GAP Insurance

A: When your car is totaled, you will be paid "Fair market value". They will not replace your car, nor find you another one, They will simply pay the $6700. to your lender and if there is any left, it will go to you to be used whatever way you wish. After that, there is no reason why the same credit union wouldn't make you another loan.

Q: My car was parked when another driver hit it. It was totalled. Should I show the ins co the KBB value?Or wait?
KBB means Kelly Blue Book value. I am afraid that they will name a ridiculously low value. My car has very low miles. The insurance co. won't fix the car bc the cost of body work is much higher than the value of the auto. Thanks. I do not have collision coverage (in my state, ppl are required to have only liability coverage to pay for damages they might be responsible for; collision is extra). The other driver's insurance has admitted liability already. I had 2 witnesses (they told me about the accident) who saw the other driver hit my parked car.

A: they wont give you kbb on it, but you can try to fight them for a higher offer

Q: I'm a undergrad student in GA and need help on what kind of loans i should get?
I'm marked as dependent but i'm living away from home and my parents don't pay for anything except health insurance. I think i have good credit bc i've always paid all my credit cards on time. I'm 21 and I'm just wondering which ones are the best. Any help would be awesome because I don't even understand what "interest rate reduction for auto-debit" means. I don't want to pay anything or have any interest grown until I get out of college. Are there any available like that? what should I look for? My college sucks and they don't educate people on this, even when you ask.

A: Do it in this order: 1. Free money (scholarships and grants) -- in your case this could mean the HOPE program your state has. 2. Federal loans -- file the FAFSA and get these cheap loans. You don't have to start paying them until 6 months after you leave school. 3. Private loans -- they will check your credit rating, you might get a better rate with a cosigner, their interest rates are higher, and you usually have to start paying them off right away. "Interest rate reduction for auto-debit" means that when you pay back your loan, you get a lower interest rate if you have your payments automatically deducted from your bank account. Lower interest rates save you a lot of money in the long run.

Q: dishonest father i think..?
my car was hit a few months ago and still never fixed almost 6 months now the insurance is under my dad i pay the payment each month and drive the car..i never received the check from the insurance company.//i feel my dad stole the check from the mailbox bc hes good for that stuff like stealing..he has been bullshitting me for months..he says the check was sent to an auto body place to fix the car and will let us kno when they receive it..why wouldnt they send it to my house is my 1st question????doesnt this sound fishy..?how do i find out where my check is so i can fix my car? any suggestions

A: um, why haven't you called your insurance company? If you are paying the premium on your insurance, they should be talking to you even if you are under your father's policy. If this is actually _his_ car [titled in his name], and he's paying the payments [if any] and paying the insurance premium, and probably paying for gas as well, you might wan to tread lightly on the old man.

Q: my father is dishonest?
my car was hit a few months ago and still never fixed almost 6 months now the insurance is under my dad i pay the payment each month and drive the car..i never received the check from the insurance company.//i feel my dad stole the check from the mailbox bc hes good for that stuff like stealing..he has been bullshitting me for months..he says the check was sent to an auto body place to fix the car and will let us kno when they receive it..why wouldnt they send it to my house is my 1st question????doesnt this sound fishy..?how do i find out where my check is so i can fix my car? any suggestions

A: In the company I worked at for 8 years, the cheque would not have been mailed to the bodyshop unless that bodyshop had already done or agreed to do the work to fix your car. Otherwise, the cheque would be sent to the "named insured", the person whose name the policy is in. This sounds like you. Check with the insurance company - have your policy number and claim number ready when you call. Do you know the contact info of the person who handled your claim? If they tell you the cheque went to a bodyshop, explain to them that the bodyshop never did the work. If the cheque went to you, then you need to have a chat with your father....
