Q: How much are people in Illinois paying for auto insurance for an 18 year old boy?
He doesn't have a car yet, I just want to know how much other parents are paying for their son's insurance, before I decide when he gets one.

A: Insurance is very individual because it's based on personal record, sex, age, and a number of other variables such as location, credit rating etc I was able to save money through a free on-line quoting service at http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html They had several links. All I did was fill out their quote request and received back a lot better rates then what I was paying. I would suggest you get your son to try more than one quote before you settle with anyone, the service is free and there's no obligation so you might as well try it. Here's some others from my bookmarks: http://finance.ebookorama.com/ukusa-sele... http://autoinsurance.guidearticles.com/ http://gsx1.com/Car-Insurance/100.php If you are searching for a cheap car to insure look for car that is 5-7 years old with good safety features. Something like a Honda Civic or Toyota Corrolla. Those cars get great gas mileage, are reasonable to insure, and are relatively inexpensive to maintain.

Q: Illinois auto insurance question here....?
I recently discovered my girlfriend doesn't have auto insurance. Unfortunately I discovered that after I slid on some ice and hit a parked car while driving hers. Is it possible that my insurance company could cover this? The damage to the parked car is minimal compared to her car but I'm still pretty worried. I'm not sure what to do next.

A: Your Liability Coverage should cover you for the property damage you caused. Call your insurance company and report the loss, they will review your coverage and advise you if you are covered. There is no coverage for your girlfriend's vehicle.

Q: Am I required to add my 16 year old student driver to my auto insurance policy, we live in Illinois.?
As the student drivers parent, is my current auto insurance coverage in effect and still valid (for me and my 16 yr old) when my 16 year old student driver is driving my vehicle (supervised driving\practice), even though I have not added them as a driver on my auto insurance policy. We live in Illinois. After the student driver receives their official drivers license am I required to add them as a driver to my auto ins policy, or am I and this new driver still covered by my policy because I have given them permission to operate my vehicle?

A: It depends on the company, but in most situations, yes...you must add them...otherwise risk an unpaid claim if an accident arises. If you have been with your insurance company for an extended period of time it is possible they may not charge you if it is just a permit or learners lic ....some companies do this for preferred policyholders but you need to report it either way...not worth an upaid claim.

There is a program for teens that is you have a certain GPA your rate will be lower. Is the min. a 3.0 or will it lower more the higher it is? I have Allstate and will be added to my parents policy.

Q: Does Illinois have an auto insurance verification system?

A: Insurance companies are required to send a list of everyone who has filed for insurance with them to the state. If you apply for a driver's license and you're not on their list, they know you don't have auto insurance. Likewise, if you are dropped by your auto insurance company, they are required to send the state notification of that as well, so the state also knows when you've been dropped and will send you a note telling you that you need to get auto insurance. In addition, you need to carry proof of insurance with you in the car at all times in case of a traffic stop.

Q: Can I put a lein on the parents house if the auto insurance will only pay $50,000, the med bills are higher?
I was in an auto accident in 2006 in Illinois. The auto insurance will only pay $50,000.00 per person. My bills are over $54,000.00 already. I will be having more bills if I have another surgery. I have had two surgeries already. As it sits right now, my claim should be worth $175,000.00 to $200,000.00 for bills and pain and suffering. My question is...Can't I put a lien on his parents house to compensate for my injuries? The driver was 19 at the time and he was driving his parents vehicle and it is his parents auto insurance that is involved. He was a drunk driver and hit me in the rear and hurt all four of us in the vehicle. His parents own the car and I know they own their home in Illinois. I just don't think it is fair that I have all this pain and suffering and have to pay bills out of my pocket. I have to walk with a walker and Cain now after the accident. Does anyone know if I can put a lien on his parents house and what kind of lien would it be called? Thanks Sorry I didn't mention this but, I did have an attorney. The Attorney last week fired himself without giving me a reason. I think it is because the money is maxed out with the insurance. I am not sure. He was my attorney from 6/23/2006 to 03/03/2008. Plus, Illinois has a two year statute of limitation to file a law suit. I LIVE IN UTAH. I was only passing through Illinois on my way home to Utah. I tried calling other Attorneys in Illinois and they won't take the case because they say it is to close to the statute of limitation. I don't know what to do.

A: You can not just be granted some kind of lien on somebodies house with a lawsuit. Before you go off and sue the parents, I assume you or attorney checked your policy for underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) That should come into play here. The attorney bailing on you tells me that you either didn't have UIM coverage or it is not enough to cover the bills and your pain and suffering. I believe UIM is required in IL so you should ask your company if they are required to provide the Illinois minimum coverages since the loss happened in IL. Also, you need to talk to the billing people at the doctors/hospitals to see if they are willing to reduce their medical bill liens. Suing the parents will cost you a lot of money because you will be hard pressed to find an attorney who will take on that kind of lawsuit without a retainer fee up front. Good Luck.
