Q: Louisiana Auto Insurance?
Okay, I'm about ot turn 16 and get my license. Am I allowed to drive if I'm under my dad's policy, or do I have to have my own? I'm not asking what the cheapest auto insurance is... I'm wondering about the insurance law... do I have to have my OWN policy or can I be under my dad's at 16 years old?

A: loveaddict15, For car insurance the fastest way to get a low quote is do a policy comparison. If you choose the same coverage levels, you can get an accurate quote to compare against others. Use the same zip code, auto make/model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get fast auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html and you can compare the major auto insurance companies.

Q: What is the cheapest auto insurance you have found for Louisiana?
We by far are one of the highest rated states in the US. I am looking for ways to save money and I am sure this is a good way. What company works for you?

A: You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did. Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=616165&Type=auto Take care, Casey

Q: Can you buy auto insurance coverage on a month-to-month basis in Louisiana?
(To clarify, if you only needed coverage for April, but not for the five months afterwards.)

A: You can only buy 6 month or 12 month policies. However, you can cancel the policy, but they usually require 2 months premiums for down-payment.

Q: what is the penalty for an auto insurance lapse for 2 months in louisiana?
WAS NO ARRESTED NOR STOPPED. INSURANCE IS NOW REINSTATED (PREMIUMS CURRENT) BUT INSURANCE COMPANY FAILED TO REINSTATE BACK IN APRIL BUT I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I COULD HAVE IT REINSTATED TO AVOID DMV FINES. THE $200.00 PLUS INSURANCE PREMIUMS MAY BE MORE THAN THE DMV FINES. IS IT?

A: $25 fine, up to $500 fine, confiscation of plates (optional for first offence), vehicle impoundment. It's driving without insurance, even if the policy has lapsed for only a minute.

Q: Looking into farm bureau insurance in louisiana need help?
Farm Bureau is the cheapest insurance I can afford here but do I have to be a member to get auto insurance through them? I am only 19 will they insure someone my age?

A: Try this website for Farm Bureau in Louisiana. Find an agent in your area to give you a quote for a policy http://www.lafbins.com/

Q: Does anyone have any experience with Insurance Unlimited in Louisiana?
They offer really good prices on auto and homeowner's insurance, it is so low that I wonder where's the catch, they say they write so many policies so they can offer low prices. I will appretiate any reviews. Thanks

A: Insurance Unlimited is an AGENCY, not a COMPANY. You aren't buying their policy, you're buying someone else's - they are the middleman, the agent. The "catch" is probably minimum limits on auto, and/or really high deductibles. If you get a quote from them, ask them who the carrier is, and WHAT they are rated. Likely you're getting a Progressive quote, or Infinity, or some such. To quote someone who never existed, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

Q: Does my auto insurance company have a legal obligation to defend me in court if the other company won't pay?
I got in an accident in Louisiana, the state in which I reside, but the car I was driving is still technically insured in California. I don't know if the answer to this question has anything to do with the state. My insurance company determined that the accident was 100% not my fault, but the other company is giving me a hard time and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to take them to court. In Louisiana, taking the insurance company along with the accident-causer to court is legal. I just want to know if my own insurance company has the obligation to help me out in court or if I have to go at it alone.

A: You will need to file suit against the other driver/owner, not the insurance company unless they have acted in bad faith. The other person's insurance company will defend their insured. Your insurance company will not assist/defend you in your lawsuit against the other party. The are only obligated to defend and indemnify if suit is file against you. If you have collision coverage, you should simply file a claim against your own policy. Your insurance company will pay you less your deductible(if it applies), and then subrogate to recover what the paid out and your deductible.

Q: How do you become an insurance agent?
I have been thinking about becoming an insurance agent but have no idea about what is required to start selling insurance. I was thinking about health or auto insurance. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. I do not know if my state makes a difference but I am in Louisiana

A: Depends on the state. You'll need to start with an insurance license in the field you're interested in... Life & Health Property & Casualty (Houses & cars) Medicaire Supplement & Long-term care are the 3 most likely If you look in the newspaper & find a carrier hiring that mentions NO EXPERIENCE - they'll often pay for your license - especially Life Insurance companies

Q: Transfer auto title from my brother in NC to LA?
I have a brother who left his car with me after being stationed in the Germany for 3 years. He no longer wants his car and wants to donate it to me. How would we transfer ownership and title being that he is now in Germany? The car was originally registered in North Carolina and is now in Louisiana. Insurance and inpection have since expired.

A: Assuming your brother is the title holder, and the vehicle is free and clear of any liens because of financing, he would sign the title as the seller, have it notarized, and ideally also make out a bill of sale that he is transferring his interest in the vehicle to you at no charge. Many states don't charge for transfers between family members. You would take those documents to the DMV, where you would get a title issued in your name, and information as to how to get tags on it and get it back on the road. Do not drive it until you have insurance in place of course.

Q: Do we really need “Universal Healthcare”, or would “Insurance Reform” do the trick?
Lets face it, Insurance Companies have not been doing anyone any favors, let alone fulfilling their contractual obligations without substantial litigations first. This is not only a drain on our legal system, but literally killing people in the process. It’s not only the “Healthcare” end of the “Insurance Industry” but also Property and Auto Insurance as well. “We’ll sell you an insurance policy no problem, but if you file a claim - we will take you to court to prove your case regardless.” In Michigan years ago, they passed the “No-fault Insurance act” to ease the burden on the judicial system. In Michigan now, you must take your own insurance company to court, before they will even consider paying the benefits they sold you. Insurance Companies flat-out left Louisiana after Katrina hit - without paying out a dime to the policyholders they gained profit from. Doctors charge what they do because of the “Malpractice” premiums they MUST carry in order to do their jobs legally. Drivers MUST obtain “Auto Insurance” to drive their car legally on any public road. Mortgage holders MUST obtain a “Home-Owners” policy before they can even move into their homes. I ask you; if we MUST buy an insurance policy and a Insurance a Company sells us one (without looking for ‘loopholes’ first), should they not be obligated to stop overwhelming our legal system and pay up, when we do make a claim? Remember… AIG is an” Insurance Company”.

A: I see it the same way you do. BTW: The insurance companies pulled out of Florida, as well, and this contributed in large part to the housing bust (in my opinion). Even if you had buyers willing to pay the price, they couldn't get insurance = no sale.

Q: what to expect from auto-accident settlement?
Was rear-ended by lady in Louisiana involving 4 cars.No serious injuries, except me for whiplash and lower back. Seeing chiropractor for eight weeks. Expect med bills to be about $2000.00, car repair $1000.00 and lost 2 killer future jobs because of this, now unemployed and broke.Defendants insurance is Allstate. Any idea what to expect for settlement? I was on my way back from being hired by GE in HOUSTON, but had to turn it down because of injuries.

A: For auto insurance the easiest way to get a low quote is do a policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage amounts, you can get an accurate quote to compare against others. Q: state to state insurance changes for autos?
I have moved from LA to AL. I heard that AL has lower rates than louisiana does. I was thinking about changing my insurance over...BUT... A family member has been driving my car for several months now. Just here and there. (I've now got a company car that I use) But the car is in LA still. They are not in a position to buy and I feel like it's worth it to let someone drive. I owe on the car so it is fully insured. My cost is $591 every 6 months. Should I just leave things alone? Or do I need to get my AL license, re-register car to new address, AND change over insurance?

A: Talk to your LA agent about where the best place to insure the car is. Since it's principally garaged in LA, I'm inclined to say you would insure it there. However, since your relative is the regular user of the car, you will need to list them on the policy as a driver. Otherwise, coverage could be denied if your relative were in an accident while driving the car. Since you are living in AL - you will have to get your drivers license changed over to AL.

Q: I am 19yrs old, and will be getting a car around February or March of 2008, can I get it in my name?
Basically, I am a 19yr old male in Louisiana, and will be getting a vehicle around Feruary or March of 2008. So can I get my auto insurance in my name? can I pay for 3 months worth of my insurance up front once I get my vehicle? Also at the dealership when I sign for he vehicle can I get everything in my name such as registration, title, tax, license, etc...... I don't want to put it in anyone elses name just for cheaper insurance, as I'll just pay my auto insurance myself. Also about how much do you think my auto insurance will be? Thanks

A: Yes, you can. Expect your insurance costs to be very high.

Q: ex wives, child support, How much more can she take??
I have 2 children. The oldest is 18 and just moved in with me in Louisiana to attend college. The other is 16 and lives with her mother in Texas. I bring home 781.00 a week. I pay trucknote for my son of 232.00 & auto insurance ,207.00 plus his gas, provide home, food, etc. but b/c he is 18 it doesnt count for anything im assuming in the eyes of the court. My child support was set in La. at 600.00 a month 10 years ago for both children but now my ex wife who has since moved to TX, makes at least or more than I do. I dont know exactly what she makes but its somewhere between 80-100K a year. My 16 yr old daughter now wants a car and I was going to buy her one and pay the insurance for her as well but I thought the only fair thing was to cut the child support in half (300.) since I am raising my son. xwife sent me a msg. saying that she was going to take me back to court because she wants the total amt + more since its only 1 child & if I dont buy the car she will poison Poison my daughter against me. My daughter will get mad b/c and not speak to me b/c I bought my son a car and paid his insurance and now I cant do the same for her. She is very manipulative in that regard. I know I need legal advice but it is very expensive and its hard to live on what I have now. I am at wits end. I am trying to spend all I can on my kids but I hardly have anything left to give. Its never enough. Please any advice would be appreciated. 600.00 child support for one child, 232. car, 207.00 insurance, 200.00 gas, plus another car (6,000K) plus another 200.00 a month insurance...were talking over 1400.00 a month. almost two checks a month. And all she does it have one 16yr old live with her!!!! Is something wrong with this picture? She moved to texas 5 years ago to chase a man and make more money. She is an RN and could make double the money she could make here. She owns a nice house in "ritzy" Kingwood and I cant even afford to buy a home...I still rent. She trys to "keep up with the Jones's" on my money. Only buys namebrand clothes for the kids, etc. Let me also add - her sister is an attorney and does all her legal work for free. Ive always been at a disadvantage where this is concerned as well. Last year I gave my son a credit card so he could have a way to take his girlfriend out to eat or emergencys....my ex wife stole the credit card from him and charged over 400.00 on it...so I had to cancel the card. It really never ends. Thanks for all the advice....I just needed to get all this off my chest

A: If you are paying directly to her make sure you are documenting every penny you give her. If you pay by check in the memo make a VERY detailed list of what the money is for. Keep copies of checks, receipts of anything purchased. Good record of all payments. Make payments on time. Do not give cash if you do then go get a money order and document on it and the money order receipt a detailed message what it is for. If your court order states that you stop paying when child turns 18 then you no longer are obligated to pay for that child. You need to file a motion to modify. Here is a web site that can be helpful to you. It is for incarcerated folks so don't get upset that I gave it to you. It has good info. http://www.fcnetwork.org/library/p3ChildSupport.pdf A lot of this you can do through your local child support enforcement office. Just talk to them. Be confident...

Q: Where does it all go?
Just having recently moved from Texas to Louisiana - I am trying to figure out where all of the taxes from LA go, its sure aint to the roads, bridges or schools, where in the heck is all of this money going and why the hell did my auto insurance double?

A: Some of the most corrupt politicians in the country, comparable to those in Chicago.
