Q: My landlord ran over my dog Her auto insurance said in Montana renters have no rights?
They said because the landlord lives on the same property, even though we rented a house w/4 acres, she isn't responsible to pay for our dog. This was an expensive dog that was used for stud services.

A: Well, if it was such an expensive dog, WHAT THE HECK WAS IT DOING RUNNING LOOSE???? You are lucky your dog didn't damage her car or then YOU would have to pay her!!!

Q: Do you need a drivers license to get auto insurance in Montana?

A: You can get auto insurance in Montana without a drivers license. But, you will only have a specified amount of time to get your drivers license after you get the insurance - usually 45 days. If you don't have insurance by that time then the policy cancels. Without a drivers license the policy will be more expensive since they do not have a driving history to look at for you. The easiest way to get insured would probably be online in this case. Make sure to comparison shop. Many companies charge outrageous prices for drivers without licenses while others just add a small surcharge. You may want to try an online quoting service such as InsureMe at: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=614506&Type=auto. They will be able to provide information and quotes. They also have an option to speak to qualified insurance agents for free. Take care. Ron @ InsureMe

Q: If you would like to see the mandatory auto insurance laws repealed, let me know your reason.?
Also, which state will be the first to repeal its mandatory auto insurance law? I say Montana

A: I think the mandatory auto insurance laws should be more thoroughly enforced. It's horrible to think what kind of damage people can cause without having to pay a price! ~V.

Q: Do you think Montana Governor Schweitzer is doing a good job?
The USDA says it is ok to ask food stamp applicants the reason for going on food stamps. Gov Schweitzer will not allow this in Montana, even privately funded. We need to know how many are on food stamps due to the mandatory auto insurance and other laws. This data is required by law to be included in the fiscal note law and since Governor Schweitzer will not allow this researched,I think he is committing obstruction of justice. Do you think he is doing a good job?

A: I think he's doing a fine job. He's protecting our privacy and is unwilling to be bullied by insurance lobbyists. He's keeping the government out of our business. They don't really need to know why people are on food stamps. If some other law requires it, that law is wrong. Obstruction of Justice? Is he really preventing the police from punishing a criminal? Montana is one of the last few states with strong privacy laws. I'm ecstatic that Schweitzer is willing to put his neck out in order to protect those laws.

Q: How does one explain federal food stamp rules to Hank Hudson of the Montana DPHHS?
Hank Hudson says there is no relationship between paying traffic fines, mandatory auto insurance and increases in food stamp nrs. (NO deduction allowed for these) Allen Nichels says (correctly) that those eligible for food stamps can collect food stamps due to paying traffic fines, and mandatory auto insurance costs, thereby causing a food stamp skyrocket. How do we explain this to Hank Hudson of the Montana DPHHS http://www.foodstampstudy.com

A: I think TOO many people are on food stamps that totally abuse the system!! I'm not against helping people in need (God knows I've been in need many times!!) But people totally abuse it and go out of their way to suck the system while others that need temporary help can't get it!! Food stamps should be a TEMPORARY thing until someone gets back on their feet! Not a way of life! I don't think that they should include traffic fines, that is ridiculous. Behave on the road and you (possibly) won't get a ticket!! How about they include GAS prices so us ALL can get a little help! Haha!
