Q: How do mexicans look for auto insurance in Mexico?
When you live in Mexico, do people use yellow pages, local independent agents, online websites..how do they go by buying auto insurance?
Also, what is their biggest problem when coming to the usa and looking for auto insurance, aside from the language barrier? Are the coverage similar, do they have a trust problem, etc..what would be the most helpful thing a US insurance company could do for them?
Thanks for your help.
A: Auto insurances are a bit cheaper here in mexico... most banks and insurance companies offer auto insurances. Here in Mexico, most banks are in every state, so they have nationwide customers, and brochures can be found in every bank.
Auto insurances are also advertised on TV, radio, online, yellow pages, but most of the time, people already know the names of the companies, and they would just ask for a quotation by telephone.
It is not mandatory to have an insurance here, so a lot of people (mostly poor people who cant afford insurance) wont have one
I drive a 2006 Toyota Rav4 and I pay around 1000USD/ year for my auto insurance with inbursa (www.inbursa.com.mx)
As I did, most people will go to the bank and just buy the insurance there.
When coming to the US there are a bunch of scenarios, mainly:
1) if I were to drive all the way there, I would have no problem and I understand that my insurance has coverage.... but it is too far anyhow.
2) when renting a car.. no problem, just get the insurance too.
Language barrier,,, hmmmm, yes probably, but most people that can afford it would be able to understand what ur selling.
Of course that there are people that doesnt speak english in need for an auto insurance.
Q: Shopping for auto insurance in new mexico?
My auto insurance covers 4 vehicles. Which auto insurance company do you suggest.
A: Check out esurance.com. Much lower rates in Cali than Geico, not sure about NM. Their billing is all online, so easy. Good luck.
Q: We are thinking about driving our car into Mexico. Any advice on auto insurance?
We are planning on being near the Mexican border and possibly driving into Mexico. What are the requirements for automobile insurance if I decide to drive into Mexico? Any other advice? I know, don't drink the water, Montezumas Revenge. Thanks for your answers.
A: Wow ! There are some really wrong answers on here.
Believe or not, most standard insurance companies actually allow you to be covered in Mexico. It is an endorsement, so it will cost a little extra. They will usually cover you within 75 miles of the border. Call your agent and ask.
Q: Can anyone reccomend an auto insurance to cover my vehicle while visiting Mexico?
I have Progressive , but they will only cover 20miles in from the border. We are traveling all the way into Michoacan, so that won't help. I just want to know if anyone can refer me to a legitimate auto insurance for taking your vehicle into Mexico. Please give me any you know of either by website, or phone number, or even by name and I will look up the rest. Thanks
A: That is the maximum Mexico endorsement I have ever seen & it is very minimal coverage at that. It is not the same coverage as you have when you are in the US anyway so I wouldn't depend very much on it even if you were less than 20 miles from the border. What you can do is purchase Mexican insurance right before you cross the border. This is the best thing to do & is the only place I know of that will provide you the coverage you should have while travelling in Mexico.
Q: how many miles into mexico does a regular auto insurance cover?
i plan on traveling down there but am not sure if my insurance will cover me or if i should buy an extra one.
A: usually it's 12miles in. but you still need mexican insurance b/c MEXICO DOESN'T accept your US insurance as proof. They require the mexican insurance and will not honor your id card. sorry. they want/need your money. just buy the mexican insurance at the border. it's usually pretty cheap.
good luck!
Q: Auto insurance question: My car is stuck in New Mexico, I'm trying to get it towed to the Honda Dealership.
The nearest Honda dealership is in Amarillo, TX about 150 miles away. Do I or does the insurance company take care of getting a tow truck to transport the vehicle? I was caught in the snowstorm that just came through. Thanks.
A: Sorry for your trouble. You've gotta talk with your insurance company - either you're covered or you aren't. Most likely, there's some "up to" distance they'll cover (mine is 75), then you pay the rest.
Good luck!
Q: I am leaving for Mexico, what type of auto insurance do I need and where can i get it?
going to mexico for my birthday. i have a 2004 toyota corola and my insurance provider won't cover me down there...any help would be great
A: Happy Birthday! Our Insurance agency is in California so we get this question frequently. Also, I visit my friend in Ensenada a few times a year. I drive to the last exit before the border. When you get off the freeway there is a Chevron Station. Next to it is an insurance kiosk. You will need your vehicle registration and driver's license. They will do a policy based on the Blue Book value of your car and the number of days you will be in Mexico. They take all major credit cards and the whole process takes 5 minutes. So far I have never had a claim, so I can't provide any info on that.
Some of the other answers regarding personal defense may also be helpful.
Have fun, be careful!

Q: Cheapest Reputable Auto Insurance for when you drive to Mexico?
?????
A: I am Mexican, and I normally always use American companies when renting a car inside Mexico: Hertz, Budget...
It's exactly the same as in US. Look through internet, and most likely you will get better prices than once you're in there. Also, you ensure got a good car waiting for you. :D
So, in order to compare price, definitely look into these companies through the internet. From my experience is the best way.
Q: Are workers at Mercury Auto Insurance aliens from the planet mercury or just from Mexico?
I hate that commercial.
A: i haven't heard of this breed. it's not my people, though.

Q: are u.s. citizens required to purchase mexican auto insurance before entering Mexico?
A: Driving Into Mexico
An automobile permit is required when driving into the interior of Mexico beyond the border cities. The permits, good for up to 180 days, may be obtained at the border after the tourist card has been stamped by Mexican immigration officials. A $10 fee must be paid by the vehicle’s owner using a major credit card on whose face the word "bank" appears. Vehicle Title of Ownership is required. If the vehicle owner is not in the party, written permission from the owner for a specific time period must be presented. The individual to whom the car permit is issued will have his tourist card stamped to that effect, and it is mandatory that he accompany the auto and surrender the permit upon leaving Mexico.
Auto tourists must stop at Mexico’s Federal Inspection Points located on all principal highways to the interior, usually about 12 miles from the border. There the auto permit must be presented for inspection, and baggage inspection may also be required.
Mexican Auto Insurance
According to Mexican civil statutes, it is unlawful to operate a motor vehicle in Mexico without auto mobile insurance issued by a Mexican insurance company. In the past, most U.S. insurance companies offered provisions to adjust claims arising from auto accidents in the immediate border cities of Mexico (Endorsement 74). Although that endorsement may still be carried on U.S. policies, Mexican authorities no longer recognize it, and their law is explicit: Drivers must be covered by Mexican insurance. Auto accidents are considered criminal offenses in Mexico, and regardless of fault, involved vehicles are usually impounded.
Short-term Mexican auto insurance is available from numerous agencies and travel services on the Texas side of the border.
Quite a few years ago, my Father-in-law spent a night in jail because he didn't have insurance.
Q: If American auto insurance isnt accepted in Mexico, what do all the people who shop in the border towns need.?
A: check with your insurance, they[some] cover an area of about 30 miles into mexico at least ours do. Or you can just purchase insurance for a trip to cover certain miles into the interior of mexico
Q: going to mexico, whats the best and cheapest auto insurance? 2 cars going to rocky point ....?
A: For how long ... just a few days or weeks it might be better to shop on the US side of the border. I pay by the year which is not much more than the 6 month rate.
