Q: In Ontario, how does auto insurance work? Do you need to insure yourself as a driver and your car separately?
In Ontario, Canada, how does auto insurance work? Do you need to insure yourself as a driver and your car separately? If anyone can help me with the details of this, that would be great. Thanks!

A: Yes you insure the car and yourself as the driver and then can add drivers and more coverage to the policy if you want to.Basically you must get a standard coverage such as 1 million dollar liability or basic coverage if driving it. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way shop around for quotes but be careful if you've a bad drivers record etc bec checking with too many places can be like lowering your credit rating or status and end up not in your favor. If you want to give me more info such as your age , driving history, number of years driving and last time covered etc I might be able to recommend a company but going through an insurance brokerage can help a lot too.

Q: Which auto brand is the cheapest for insurance in Ontario?
I heard that, for auto insurance, Van is cheaper than sedan, Is it true? Could you please tell me which auto brand is the cheapest for auto insurance (e.g. Ford, Nissan, Hyundai)? Thank you in advanced.

A: I believe that if you want the cheapest auto insurance premium, just buy a used one! They don't base on any brand but they do base on your age and value of the car you are insuring!

Q: Buying Auto Insurance in Ontario, Canada?
Dear every auto owner in Ontario: I'd like to buy a new car, so I want to get your precious opinion. I am over 32 years old, and I own a full G license. 1. What items (policy) of auto insurance are strongly suggested to buy (besides liability)? How much does each those items cost me (just roughly)? 2. Any good reputation with reasonable price of auto insurance companies are suggested for me to compare with? 3. Can you give me a rough price that I should pay for auto insurance fees per month? 4. With a certificate of driving hours from my driving school, how much discount can I get from the insurance company? Any other precious suggestions for buying auto insurance are strongly welcome, thank you, Sean offering 30 points

Q: Auto insurance benefit are Taxable or Non Taxable Ontario?

A: Its non-taxable. If your employer is making the payments its still non-taxable. However in those cases sometimes the policy is payable to the employer, and they still pay you regular salary.

Q: Will my auto insurance rate go up? (Ontario)?
I got a ticket for making an illegal U-turn (2 demerit points). I am an occasional driver with a G license. My insurance is with Allstate. Will my insurance rates go up? Let me kno if you have any experience with Allstate, like if you got a ticket (what was it for?) and if your rates went/didn't go up (how much?). Thank you

A: I don't have allstate ot live in ontario but I do know that even some minor violations can make your insurance go up. I think the best thing would be to call your insurance agent and find out what types of violations effect your policy. I wouldn't think however that it would go up too much considering it was a u turn. It wasn't an accident or a really high speeding ticket.

Q: In Ontario do I have 15 days to get new auto insurance once my old plan runs out?

A: Doesn't much matter where you are. If you insurance expires, you have no insurance. If you continue to drive, you are driving without insurance. If you wait 15 days, and then apply for a new policy, one of the questions they ask is "Do you currently have insurance?" and your answer will be "NO". That will automatically put you in a high risk class and raise your premium. Contact where ever you plan to get new insurance now, tell them the date your old policy expires, and they can start the new one when the old one expires and you will have seamless coverage. So that brings up the question, why does everyone THINK they have 2 weeks (or 30 days) before they have to get insurance? If you are trading a vehicle in for another vehicle, and let's assume you pick up your new car on Saturday and Monday is a holiday... Your present insurance policy on your old car will cover your new car until you have a chance to contact your insurance agent to make the necessary changes. If is usually written into the rules as "as soon as you can contact your agent, or in no case any longer than X days." People seemed to think that applied to any car purchase...but it does not. Unless you have insurance specific to the vehicle you own and drive, you are uninsured except for a replaced vehicle, and only for a short time in that case.

A: These benefits are non-taxable. The reason for this is that you paid income tax already on the insurance premiums.

Q: How does a traffic ticket, first offense, impact the cost of auto insurance in dollars or percentage?
I got a traffic ticket under the Ontario Highway Act for "Disobey a Stop sign" it carries a 3 demerit points and a fine. I would like to know how much this infraction may increase my auto insurance at renewal.

A: It depends on the company and its policies. Insurers don't routinely check your record on renewal because of the cost of doing it, but they will check at some point and see it. What effect it has on your rates is up to the company.
